tools for bodycare
taking care of ourselves within our current system of exploitation leaves our bodies absolutely wrecked. i understand that fitting regular self-care into our routines can be daunting & exhausting. instead of finding new time slots, combine your low-key activities with small additions to connect with your physical being. below you will find tools that i utilize as a practitioner to take care of my body!
use this small, textured plastic ball all over! this is an amazing tool because you can use your body weight to apply pressure to all different parts of your body. i suggest using it against a wall following down your extremities, or sitting on it along your glutes to help relieve back pain. play with it while you are watching tv or sitting in a meeting!
active wrap offers amazing compression packs for all your sore spots! i highly recommend the wrist & shoulder packs for folks that work on a computer. i put mine on when I'm watching TV or as I'm falling asleep which makes it feel more easily added to my routine.
soaking
being in water is vital to our bodies & nervous systems! water helps regulate, hydrate & connect us to a deeper essence. for me, taking baths is a wonderful way to give myself care. i always encourage my clients to take short baths with epson salts - read a book, listen to a podcast, use your gua sha tool, sit in silence, take an actual break. i love getting affordable, bulk epson salts at mama & hapas; a zero waste shop with multiple locations in portland.
portland has great places to soak your weary soul. check out everett house, common ground wellness, kennedy school, & breitenbush hot springs for different soaking experiences around the city.
